Often an artist will do a work, a piece of art or an installation prior to the lecture. The public is invited to join in and help in the creative process. This could take and hour, or a day or more.
The lecture is always in the evening and under the beautiful trees which are central to the courtyard. The Chinese name for the tree is: Kulin(苦苓樹). In English, the tree is: Melia Azedarach or China Berry. In the spring the trees have beautiful purple flowers similar to cherry blossoms so famous everywhere. In the summer the trees are heavy with lush green leaves and provide shade for the camp. In winter, the leaves fall leaving natural skeletons of beautiful branches around the camp.
